My Review: This audiobook is the story of Jaycee Lee Dugard who was kidnapped at the age of 11 by Phillip and Nancy Garrdio. These two disgusting humans held Jaycee captive in their backyard for 18 years after kidnapping her on her way to the bus stop. This audiobook tells Jaycee’s story, in her own words. When I started listening, I had so many unanswered questions. Why didn’t she try to leave? Why didn’t she scream out “I’m Jaycee!” to the many parole officers that came to check on Phillip. But thankfully, she answered all of those questions by the end of the audiobook. Jaycee’s strength and hope carried her through the horrible sexual and verbal abuse. She gave birth to two daughters in her backyard prison and managed to raise them into smart, vibrant young women.

There are points in this audiobook that will make you furious. Furious that horrible people like the Garridos walk this earth. And then overwhelmed with emotion after Jaycee is reunited with her mom, aunt and sister after 18 years. Thank God this woman has survived true hell. I would recommend this audiobook to everyone that would like to understand the true meaning of having hope and strength. This is so heartwarming.

Narrator Review: Jaycee Dugard really surprised me! I’m not sure I could have read these words and not burst into tears. She has a beautiful speaking voice and sounds like such an intelligent young woman. By reading this book herself, it adds so much. You can feel the emotion in the words and through her voice.
