My Rating: ★★★★½

Review: After plowing through Daemon (check out our previous review of Daemon), the heart stopping first novel in this series, I immediately added Freedom to my iPod and loaded it up for my commute to work.  Usually I telecommute and work out of a home office but this day I was traveling to the main office 4.5 hrs away. I left at 3:30 am and was quickly completely engrossed in this not so distant future that Daniel Suarez has created. It was one of the few times I can say I was a little disappointed when I finally arrived at the office.

I think one of the most intriguing aspects of this series is the way that Suarez has brought the alternate reality of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) into being. In both Daemon and Freedom, players of MMORPG are recruited by Matthew Sobel to proliferate the agenda of Sobol’s Daemon.

I love the use of the HUD displays and the descriptions of D-space and the layers of data available to the wearers. The idea of which is instantly recognizable if you have ever played any online role playing games.

Overall, Freedom really delivers an excellent experience. It is fast paced and packed with tension and hacker jargon. If you are a techie you are sure to enjoy this book! The narration is incredible. Jeff Gurner’s voice adds depth and emotion that brings the story to life.
