My Rating: ★★★★½

Author: Adrian McKinty

Narrator: Gerard Doyle

Publisher: Blackstone Audio

Length: 12 hrs 25 min

Story: A gritty and violent first person narrative interspersed with an unexpected elegance that tours you through the beautiful landscape of Ireland only to turn you around and drag you rough and bloody through the streets of Harlem.

Michael Forsythe is a likable yet flawed antihero who makes the huge mistake of falling in love with his boss’ girl. Darkey White is not the kind of man who takes such slights lightly.

Don’t think of Darkey as Brando in the Godfather, think of him as  Brando slumming it as Jor-El in Superman all full of himself overacting, clever, pretentious and clearly a bit fucking bonkers.

Darkey’s attempt to quietly dispose of Michael results in a life and death struggle that will define the limits of love, loyalty and revenge.

Audio Production: Doyle’s narration is riveting and keeps you engrossed in the story through the entire experience. There is no wonder that this audiobook won an Audiofile Earphones Award in 2005.

Overall: Excellent. There were a few times at the beginning of the book where the excessive foreshadowing got to be a little annoying but other than that I can find no fault with Dead I Well May Be. I am eagerly looking forward to continuing this series.
