Lock In by John Scalzi – An Audiobook Review

My Review: It doesn’t take much to get me interested in a new John Scalzi novel. Having thoroughly enjoyed several of his previous offerings (Redshirts, Fuzzy Nation, The Android’s Dream) I am the type to preorder his new stuff as soon as I possibly can. This time my obsession actually paid off.. preordering this novel earned me a copy of both versions of this audiobook. One version narrated by Wil Wheaton and one version narrated by Amber Benson. I preordered the Wil Wheaton version because of his great performances in Ready Player One, Redshirts, Fuzzy Nation and The Android’s...

The Returned by Jason Mott – Audiobook Review

My Review: What? People are returning from the grave and they aren’t trying to eat our brains? That’s exactly what was going through my head as I was listening to The Returned. I wasn’t exactly sure where this story was going but I kept thinking that this could be one elaborate lead in to some sort of zombie apocalypse. I’m a big fan of zombie novels and I may have been hopeful at one time during this book that some trigger would eventually be tripped in the returned’s mind that would cause them to flip out and start chasing...

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet Audiobook Review

My Rating: Author: Darynda Jones Narrator: Lorelei King Publisher: Macmillan Audio Length: 9 hrs and28 mins Download Your Copy Now!     My Review: Darynda Jones hasn’t let me down yet! Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet is book four in the Charley Davidson series and is packed with action. I listened as Charley comes out of her hoarding depression and enters back into private investigating after the horrid experience in the previous book. I still love the relationship between Reyes and Charley, and how hilarious other women act when he’s around. Poor Cookie may have a stroke just thinking about him! Charley and his...

It Takes Balls by Josh Wolf – Audiobook Review

My Rating: Author: Josh Wolf Narrator: Josh Wolf Publisher: Hachette Audio Length: 6 hrs and 12 mins My Review: Josh Wolf fans: Unite with me as we say Josh’s unofficial catch phrase… “I meannnnnnn…” I love me some Chelsea Lately, so much that I’ve listened to all of her books and I watch every episode of her show. Ninety percent of the time, I could care less who her special guest is and I focus soley on the round table discussions between Handler and her friends. My favorite round table comics have to be Josh Wolf, Ross Mathews, Bobby Lee and Loni Love. They may...

The Bat by Jo Nesbo – Audiobook Review

It feels like I have waited a very long time for this book to come out on audio! Ever since I saw the cover of The Snowman (Book 7 of this series) when it came out in 2011 I was ready to get to know Detective Harry Hole. (I am very easily swayed by a good book cover) Unfortunately this is one of those series where the first few books…..

The Husband List Audiobook Review

My Rating: Author: Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly Narrator: Lorelei King Length: 8 hrs., 34 mins. Publisher: Macmillan Audio   My Review: Although I’ve enjoyed the tag team of Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly in previous audiobooks, The Husband List fell a little flat for me. Also, if you’ve listened to Love in a Nutshell by the pair, you’ll recognize the surname Culhane and the mention of breweries. Set in 1894, Caroline Maxwell’s mother is determined to marry her off to royalty and Lord Bremerton steps up to fit the bill. Add in Jack Culhane, his father and his father’s former girlfriend for a cast of interesting subjects. Each character seems to have a lengthy background and while parts of the first half of the book were good, it left a lot to be desired. The second half was much better and kept my attention well. The descriptions of dresses and Caroline’s mother’s attitude and her lack of obvious facts were unbearable. I understand 1894 is a different time and place, but come on! Overall, this audiobook was okay. I gave it a 3-star rating because I did enjoy the drama, scarce humor and the narrator was amazing. I think The Husband List would be more suited to romance lovers. Narrator Review: Spot on once again, Lorelei King did a phenomenal job of narrating this book. Women, men, teens, English accents, French accents and more were...

Crash (Visions, Book 1) – Audiobook Review

I’m a sucker for a good series and Crash begins the Visions series by Lisa McMann with a bang, literally. Sixteen-year-old Jules Demarco has a busy life between school and working at her family’s restaurant. Her depressed hoarder father rules the roost with an iron fist and her mother doesn’t lack behind in her strictness.

What the Spell? Life’s a Witch, Book 1 – Audiobook Review

My Rating: Author: Brittany Geragotelis Narrator: Joy Osmanski Length: 9 hrs., 41 mins. Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio   My Review: Debut novelist Brittany Geragotelis introduces us to a trio of books with the first in the series, What the Spell?. What the Spell? revolves around the life of Brooklyn Sparks, a teenage witch who is about to celebrate her 16th birthday a little differently than other gals her age. Brooklyn’s parents bound her powers as a baby and promised to release them all to her on her 16th birthday. She’s been reading up on the spells though, and she’s ready for her new powers. Brooklyn’s parents are a very low magic family so she’s had to do all her research online through Witching Boards. Her first magical mission? Makeover! Long blonde locks and clear skin to match her lovely legs. She’s a new woman and she can’t wait until her classmates see the new Brooklyn. Needless to say, her second mission of joining the most popular group in school, The Elites, will be easier than ever. Things get crazy fast with drama at school, demands of The Elites and her match-making magical powers. She’s madly in love, but does he love her magic or her? Geragotelis mixes teenage problems and witchcraft to create a wonderful young adult audiobook. I’m anxious to see if Asher, her love and fellow witch, reappears in the second installment,...
